Post-industrial design

Pid studio works in the space where design and technology meet, where new materials and machines open up new possibilities in form. As technical folks, we are excited by what is now possible with desktop manufacturing, and make everything we sell right in our studio. As designers, we are committed to working these new abilities to their fullest, and want to make only that which wasn’t possible before.

Our aesthetic is modern, in the old-fashioned sense of the word. We begin with simple geometric forms and let complexity unfold in the interaction of these forms. It’s also abstract, non-representational — the geometry is interesting to us just as it is, and the beauty of this geometry is all that we want to express.

We aren’t interested in imitation, in anything ersatz. We’re not trying to make plastic look like stone or wood or metal or anything, it can look beautiful just as it is. We also think good design is honest, and an important part of that honesty consists in letting your materials just be what they are.

We work as sustainably as we can, always trying to improve our efficiency and lower our impact. We use only plant-based plastics in our lamps, and only paper-based recyclable materials in our packaging.

We are makers at heart, craftspeople who find their motivation in producing at the highest level of quality. We want to make things that are beautiful, interesting, novel, and useful, that charm and delight!
